These patterns are called “xista” and are cut into the plaster and then outlined with paint. You will get to visit the 12th century Byzantine church of the St. Apostoles thats located on the northeast corner of the central square. After an 11km drive you will then arrive at the Village of Mesta, which is considered to be the finest example of its genre. From the main square a bewildering maze of cool shady lanes provided with anti-earthquake buttresses and tunnels between the usually unpainted houses leads off in all directions.
