After a 45 minute ferry ride from Mykonos we will arrive in Tinos – which is a traditional fishing village. In this tour you are going to see most the famous and important church of Greece, the Evangellistria the women’s monastery Kechrovouni was inhabited by 40 nuns, the traditional village Volax which is home to the basket makers, the valley of the pigeon houses from the Venetian time, Pirgos; the centre of the marble arts, the peaceful fishing bay of Panormos with its lovely fish tavernas and continuously changing scenery of landscapes, traditional villages and views over the Aegean Sea and surrounding islands.
After visiting the magnificent church of Evangellistria where you can find the church’s holy icon that is believed to do wondrous deeds. We will leave from Tinos town and drive to typical styled villages and picturesque landscapes to the monastery of “Kechrovouni”. This is where nun Pelagia saw a dream to go to Tinos town which led her to find the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary. On July 23rd the name day of nun Pelagia is celebrated. We will explore the 16thcentury monastery where 80 nuns live and see the whitewashed buildings and churches, full of beautiful flowers. Continue to mountain of“Exobourgo”to see the great Venetian castle which once was the strongest force of Greece against Turkish invaders.(short photo stop).
Afterwards we will visit the Catholic villages which are located on the other side of “Exobourgo”. We will stop in the old traditional village of “Volax” which is famous for it’s basket making. Before visiting the local basket makers, we will have a short coffee break in this pretty village. Drive to the fertile downs of Komi and see the lemon groves before driving over the panorama road and continue to the fishing village “Panormos”. We will have lunch (lunch is not included to the price) in traditional tavern on waterfront which offers delicious local dishes. You will also have time for a swim.
Our next stop is village of “Pirgos” which is centre of marble and marble art of the island. We will visit the local artists and see their works. Then visit the church of Agios Nikoloas and the grave yard at its rear, both full of marble art. At the village square, we will have time for a coffee break. After that we will drive towards to the Tinos town passing through panaroma road. Finally we will visit the “Trambados”, valley of the pigeon houses. Enjoy the Venetian pigeon houses and continue to the Tinos town.
TO VISIT THE MONASTERY MEN HAVE TO WEAR LONG TROUSERS WOMEN SKIRTS, DRESSES OR LONG TROUSERS. KNEES AND SHOULDERS MUST BE COVERED IN ANY CASE.
