In this guided tour our first stop will be Filerimos. We will visit the Temple of Zeus Polieus, Doric Fountain (dating back to the 4 th century), Athena Polias (dating back to the 3rd century), Lady of Filerimos church built by the Knights in the 15th century and the Church of St. George, which has wall-paintings dating back to the 14th and 15th century.
After all these visits, our tour will continue to the Valley of the Butterflies. The valley is a unique natural park, its very green with a lovely river running through it. You will have a pleasant walk through the butterfly valley and it is quit relaxing. There’s a path you have to follow and on the way you’ll see many multi-colored butterflies. Butterflies are only there for a few months each year (spring time).Passing through little bridges, stone steps and uphill path,we will reach to the Monastery of the Virgin of Kalopetra built in 1784.
Our final destination is ancient Kamiros which was built around 7 th century. An ancient Greek city whose ruins stretch magnificently across and up a rocky hillside, with the remains of a temple of Athena at the top. You can still see the well-preserved findings of an advanced civilization that existed such a long time ago. There are also a large cistern of the 6 th or 5 th century, and a stoa (portico) of the end of the 3 rd century, measuring 200 meters in length and lined with two rows of Doric columns. On the surrounding hills, ancient burial grounds have been found. In one of the graves was unearthed the famous stele of Crito and Timarista, which is one of the most important exhibits of the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes.
