To visit Athens Acropolis – Monumental Gateway – Parthenon – Erechteion will take about 2 hours
Once you have been collected we will then start off on your day around Athens, the first point of the call shall be to the outstanding Parthenon which is the number 1 attraction of Athens and a day in Athens would not be the same without visiting here. As we reach Parthenon we will take a walk up the hill where along the way you can see the Temple of Athena Nike, it was here that Athena was worshipped as the goddess who stood by the Athenians in the time of war and this temple still stands in a great condition. Straight after the Temple, you will pass through the grand Propylaea which in the English language means ‘Monumental Gateway’, this amazing well-kept propylaea was created back in 437-432 B.C and also offers great views before you enter through it.
Moving on you will come to the world-famous Parthenon, it can be seen from any angle you stand in Athens and shines down to the city below the same as the sun shines in the sky. This Temple was built as a dedication to Athena and is absolutely incredible – it makes the most perfect photograph to take back home as a reminder! Just next to the Parthenon is a smaller building called Erechtheion and just beside here are known legends that the very first olive trees were grown by when Athena threw the seeds to the ground.
To visit Cape Sounion & Temple of Poseidon will take about 4 hours
Now you have had an in-depth exploration of the Acropolis it’s time to head back to the bus so we can make our way over to the next destination on our itinerary which of course is Cape Sounion. The road to Cape Sounion drives past some of the most idyllic beaches but also too many caves to count on both hands, have to hand it to the ancient Greeks as they really did know how to choose the perfect locations to construct their temples as you will soon see for yourself. Here at Cape Sounion, we will find the Temple of Poseidon just perched on the top of a rocky hill but overlooking the Aegean Sea which is guaranteed to take your breath away as on a clear day you can see at least 7 islands in front of you! The Temple of Poseidon was built in 44 B.C. and you will see that many of the original Doric columns are still standing today, the drop from the temple down to sea level is about 197 ft. so as you can see the location is just brilliant.
At the end of the tour, your guide will then drop you back off at your allocated drop-off points where you will be able to spend the rest of the day relaxing and also reviewing your day with us.
