Antalya and Perge were visited by Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas on their first journey.”After this Paul and his companions took ship from Paphos and made for Perge in Pamphylia;here John left them,and went back to Jerusalem.They passed from Perge,and reached Pisidian Antioch,where they went and took their seats in the synagogue on the Sabbath day”.(Acts13,13 and 14)”They preached the word of the Lord in Perge,and went down to Attalia (Antalya),taking ship there for Antioch”.(Acts14,249).It is probable that from the earliest times the city was an important centre for diffusion of Christianity in Pamphylia.Perge was represented at the council of Nicaea in 325 by metropolitan Callinicus and at the council of Ephesus in 431 by one of his successors.
Antalya (Attaleia)
This city which was founded by Attalos (King of Bergama) (BC 159-139), has unique places worth to see such as Archaeological museum and Hadrian gate.It is also a beautiful and characteristic Turkish city with its beautiful streets, houses, attractive minarets and mosques.
Thermesos
In the ancient inscriptions, the people of Termessos introduced themselves as Solymians, an indigenous people of Pamfilian. Although it was mentioned about Termessos in the story of Iliada, actually it appears in the history scene with the visit of the Great Alexander to the region. Termessos remained an ally of Rome during the Roman period.
Perge (Aksu)
The sculptures bases of the names of Kalchas and Mopsos, revealed at the oldest gate of the city, shows that the city has a bond with Helen civilization. But, a bronze tablet, brought to daylight in Boğazköy by Peter Neve in 1986, says us the name of Perge was existed as Parha during Hittite period.
Aspendos (Belkis)
Aspendos was founded by colonists from Argos in the leadership of Mopsos according to the Hellen tradition. On the coins of the 5th and 4th century BC is written the name of the city as Estvediya. In the BC 5th century, Aspendos was the only city that produced silver money with Side in the region.
Side
According to Strabon, Side, which was one of Aiol colony cities, was founded by Kimmerians. History of the city dates back to 7th century BC. The city was conquered by Great Alexander in the 3th century BC. It was a natural ally of Rome during the Roman period.
