You will be picked up from Ankara airport, your hotel, or a central point in Ankara. Your Ankara half-day tour guide will hold up a sign with your name on it, making it easy for you to find your correct tour bus. Afterward, we will drive you back to your Ankara hotel or the airport.
The morning departure will take us 208 km to Hattusa. Before visiting the main capital, we will proceed to Yazilikaya to see the open-air sanctuary as the morning sunlight illuminates the bas-reliefs. In the afternoon, we will visit the capital of Hattusas, exploring Lion’s Gate, Tunnel, King’s Gate, Citadel, and Grand Temple.
Hattusas was the capital of the Hittite Empire in the late Bronze Age, located near modern Bogazkale, Turkey, within the great loop of the Kizil River. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986, the rediscovery of Hattusa and a script referring to the ‘Great King’ of the Hittites confirmed them as the fourth great civilization of ancient times. The Hatti built Hattusa, existing as a superpower until the Hittite invasion in the mid-eighteenth century BC. Used as the Hittite capital for another 500 years, they conquered vast areas of the Middle East and Anatolia before disappearing from history books in a short period, evident in the burnt and empty ruins of their capital and other prominent Hittite cities.
There will be a chance for some free time to relax, enjoy refreshments, or have lunch in the town.
After the tour, we will return to Ankara and drop you off at your pick-up point. End of the tour.
