Pamukkale Hierapolis Tour From Kusadasi & Selcuk

You will be met at the Hotel in Kusadasi between 7:45 and 8:15 am or in Selcuk County between 8:30 and 8:45 am. Upon arrival at Pamukkale, we will head to the North Gate side, where the journey begins with a visit to the Necropolis (cemetery) of Hierapolis—one of the biggest ancient cemeteries in Anatolia with 1,200 graves. The tour continues to explore the Roman Bath, Domitian Gate, Main Street, and Byzantium Gate. (This part is optional and can be personally explored during free time).

Next, a walk leads to the natural warm water terraces, formed by running warm water containing calcium. The water's temperature is approximately 35°C, revealing the gleaming white travertine terraces of Pamukkale, situated close to the ruins of Hierapolis. This extraordinary effect occurs as water from the hot springs loses carbon dioxide, depositing limestone as it flows down the slopes. The layers of white calcium carbonate create steps on the plateau, earning the site its name, Pamukkale, resembling a huge mountain ball of cotton.

Additionally, for those interested in swimming in the Ancient Pool, also known as Cleopatra's Pool, a small extra charge applies. The Cleopatra Pool, warmed by hot springs and adorned with underwater fragments of ancient marble columns, provides a rare opportunity to swim among antiquities. During the Roman period, columned porticoes surrounded the pool, with their remnants visible beneath the water today.
