Antalya and Perge held significance in the journeys of Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas. During their initial journey, they visited these locations, and subsequently, Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos to Perge in Pamphylia. At Perge, John parted ways with them, returning to Jerusalem. The journey continued from Perge to Pisidian Antioch, where they preached in the synagogue on the Sabbath day. The missionaries proceeded to Attalia (Antalya), where they took a ship to Antioch. From early times, Perge played a crucial role in the spread of Christianity in Pamphylia. Perge was represented at the Council of Nicaea in 325 by Metropolitan Callinicus and at the Council of Ephesus in 431 by one of his successors.
In the morning, your knowledgeable tour guide will accompany you to the Perge Ancient Site, just 16 km from Antalya. The extensive remains offer a glimpse into the prosperous town that once boasted over 100,000 inhabitants. The well-preserved Perge stadium, accommodating 12,000 spectators, features a protective wall at the far end designed for spectators during wild beast fights. Adjacent to the stadium is an impressive theater adorned with finely rendered reliefs of Dionysus. Upon entering through the Roman gate, you'll encounter a large Agora to your right. Further ahead, two imposing Hellenistic Towers marked the start of the long colonnaded avenue leading to the Nymphaeum. Just behind, you'll find the Roman Public Bath dating back to the 3rd century AD.
