You will be picked up from Istanbul Airport, Istanbul Hotel, Istanbul Marina, or the cruise ship port in Istanbul. Your Edirne tour guide will hold up a sign with your name for easy identification. Departing from Istanbul in the morning by bus, Edirne, the second capital city of the Ottoman Empire, was known as the ancient Hadrianapolis (Adrianople) and the capital of Thrace. Founded in 125 A.D. by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, Edirne played a crucial role as the gateway from Europe to the East. Serving as the Ottoman Empire's capital for a century, Edirne boasts historically and architecturally significant buildings. Our first stop is the majestic Selimiye Mosque, a testament to Ottoman architecture designed by the master architect Sinan. We'll also visit the Eski Mosque and the Three-Balconied Mosque, each carrying its unique historical significance.
Before lunch, we'll explore the Grand Bazaar of Edirne, allowing you an hour of free time to relax and savor local delicacies like Ciger Tava (Fried Liver) or Edirne Meatballs. The Clock Tower and Castle ruins will be our post-lunch attractions, showcasing Edirne's historical heritage. Additionally, we'll visit the Archaeology and Ethnography Museum and the Turkish Islamic Art Museum, displaying artifacts from prehistoric to Ottoman times. Our last stop is Uzunkopru (Long Bridge), an impressive structure built by Murat II in 1444.
Returning to Istanbul by ferry, you'll be transferred back to your starting points, concluding your enriching Edirne tour experience.
