You can be picked up from various locations in Istanbul, including the airport, hotels, marina, or cruise ship port. Your Bursa & Iznik tour guide will hold up a sign with your name for easy identification. The tour spans approximately 11 to 12 hours, and afterward, you will be driven back to your respective locations in Istanbul, such as hotels, marina, airport, or harbor.
The journey starts in the morning from Istanbul, with a transfer across the Sea of Marmara by ferry or via Osman Gazi bridge. The first destination is the picturesque town of Iznik (Nicaea), known for hosting the first Ecumenical Council in 325 AD. This historic event aimed to achieve consensus in the church and played a crucial role in the development of technical Christology. Iznik also served as the temporary capital of the Byzantine Empire during certain periods. The town's center is still surrounded by Roman and Byzantine walls, and the remarkable ruins of St. Sophia Temple remain since ancient times. Another notable monument is the Green Mosque, adorned with light blue ceramics.
The journey then continues to Bursa, located at the foot of Mount Uludag (Misios Olympos), a ski resort and national park. Bursa, known as the First Capital of the Ottoman Empire, holds historical significance as the birthplace of Osman Bey, the founder of the Ottoman Empire. The Ulu Mosque (Great Mosque), constructed between 1396 and 1400 by Sultan Bayezit, showcases classical and monumental multi-domed mosque architecture.
The tour also includes a visit to The Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts in Bursa, housing a rich collection of artifacts, including Selçuk ceramics, inlaid wood pieces, textiles, costumes, glass, porcelain, and pottery. The exploration of early Ottoman architecture continues with the Green Mosque and Green Mausoleum, both constructed between 1419 and 1420. The Green Mosque is renowned for its green turquoise tiles and intricate adornments, while the Green Mausoleum stands as a symbol of Bursa with its unique structure and wooden work.
During the tour, you'll have one hour of free time for relaxation or refreshments, and you can try the famous and delicious Iskender Kebab. As the tour concludes, you will be transferred back to your initial pick-up points in the morning.
