Iznik Tour Itinerary
You will be picked up from Istanbul Airport, your hotel, Istanbul Marina, or the cruise ship port in Istanbul. For easy identification at the ports, your Iznik tour guide will hold up a sign with your name.
The Iznik tour lasts approximately 8 to 12 hours, depending on traffic conditions. After the tour, you will be driven back to your starting point: Istanbul Airport, your hotel, Istanbul Marina, or the cruise ship port.
Tour Highlights
The journey begins in the morning (around 7:30 AM) with a transfer across the Sea of Marmara. (We may use the Long Bridge instead of the ferry.) Our first destination is the picturesque town of Iznik (ancient Nicaea) on the shores of Lake Askania. Iznik is historically significant for hosting the First Ecumenical Council in 325 AD, a milestone in Christian theology. It was also a temporary capital of the Byzantine Empire when Constantinople was captured by the Latins.
Iznik is encircled by well-preserved Roman and Byzantine walls, and notable landmarks include the St. Sophia Temple and the iconic Green Mosque.
What to Expect
You will also enjoy an hour of free time to relax or have lunch at a local cafeteria, where you can try the renowned Iznik Meatball.
After lunch, we will visit the Iznik Archaeological Museum, which houses a fascinating collection of tiles and antiques from Roman times. The tour concludes with a return journey to Istanbul, either by ferry or via the Long Bridge. You will then be transferred to your original pick-up location.
Important Note: Some ancient structures or museums may be closed for renovations.
