You will be picked up from Izmir airport, Izmir Hotel, Izmir Marina, or Izmir cruise ship port. Your Izmir tour guide will hold up a sign with your name, ensuring you can easily find your allocated tour guide and transfer service. This Izmir tour will last approximately 4 hours, and afterward, we will drive you back to your Izmir hotel, Izmir Marina, Izmir airport, or Izmir harbor in Turkey.
In the Half-Day Izmir Tour, we will first drive to Izmir city center, traditionally the birthplace of Homer, honored in Classical times in the Homereium. The city of Izmir was originally called Smyrna, but today it is known as Izmir, and this city survived the catastrophes that befell the region. In the Izmir Sightseeing Tour, we will make a stop just above the city at Mt. Pagus, the most enduring of Alexander’s legacies, known as Kadifekale Castle. This castle was built in the 4th century BCE, and from Kadifekale, there are excellent views across the harbor to Karsiyaka. To the west, you can see the shape of the arena where St. Polycarp was martyred, and you will also be able to see The Agora, which sits at the foot of the hill and is visible. Then we will drive to the Agora; the word Agora means the city alley, marketplace, and shopping place. This specific Agora occupies an area of 120m by 80m. The Agora was excavated by German and Turkish archaeologists between 1932 and 1941, with the most important result of these works being the discovery of the northern gate of Agora. The relief unearthed here belongs to Goddess Vesta and is understood to be a continuation of the Zeus Altar discovered during the initial excavations. In addition, statues of Hermes, Dionysos, Eros, and Herakles, as well as many statues belonging to men, women, and animals, heads, and reliefs. After you have seen the Agora, we will then take a drive to the Izmir Archaeological Museum. The Archaeological Museum of Izmir is arranged to cater to all requirements with display halls, laboratories, and storage rooms. Over 1500 pieces are on display inside the building and garden, including archaeological heritage belonging to the antique cities of Iasos, Candarli (Pitane), Bergama, Bayrakli (old Izmir), and Myrina.
After you have taken in the sights on your Izmir Tour, your Izmir tour guide will give you approximately one hour of free time to stroll at your leisure or relax and have some refreshments in the Izmir Museum. When the tour has finished, your Izmir Tour guide will return you to your pick-up point. You can take a Private Izmir Tour, where you can be picked up by your Izmir Tour guide at your convenience, with your Izmir Tour guide picking you up at approximately 08:00 hours for your Izmir tour.
